This bathroom renovation project in a midtown Toronto condo began with a simple goal: transform an unused, outdated space into a modern remodel that feels safe, functional, and beautiful for a senior homeowner. The client needed a complete bathroom upgrade—one that blended accessibility, comfort, and luxury design.
From the moment the client moved into the condo, the bathroom was almost never used. The original design was outdated, the shower was too cramped to feel comfortable, and the bathtub was difficult and unsafe for a senior to enter. Poor lighting made the room feel even smaller, and overall, it lacked the warmth and convenience a modern Toronto bathroom should provide.
For the client, this wasn’t just an inconvenience—it was a daily frustration. She wanted a space that supported her lifestyle, offered safety, and reflected the elegance she envisioned for her home.
During our assessment, we identified several issues affecting both usability and long-term performance.
-
The bathroom lacked proper accessibility, making it unsafe for senior use.
-
The toilet was not functioning correctly and required replacement due to underlying plumbing issues.
-
The existing shower area had limited space, and water pressure was significantly below standard.
-
Moisture accumulation indicated the need for improved waterproofing, moisture control, and leak repair to ensure durability.
Our findings confirmed that a full bathroom makeover was essential to bring the space up to modern safety and comfort standards.
To create a truly accessible bathroom, we redesigned the layout and removed the existing bathtub, replacing it with a spacious walk-in shower. This instantly improved mobility and eliminated the risks associated with stepping over a tub.
We added a custom-built bench inside the shower for comfort, stability, and a spa-like experience—one of the client’s personal requests. The new plan also included a custom vanity, improved lighting design, and smart design elements to maximize the small condo layout.
Our goal was to create a space that felt open, safe, and luxurious while integrating modern bathroom features such as heated floors, high-end tile installation, and a more functional layout.
Working in a condo means respecting strict plumbing rules. The existing stack and piping could not be relocated, which limited layout options. To overcome these constraints, we engineered a solution using a linear drain that allowed us to improve drainage performance while keeping all plumbing connections within compliance.
This approach maintained accessibility, supported aging-in-place needs, and allowed us to implement the modern shower remodel ideas the client wanted.
The transformation is remarkable. The new bathroom features luxury finishes, soft lighting layers, and clean architectural lines. A spacious walk-in shower, elegant fixtures, bright tiles, and thoughtfully placed storage have completely redefined the space.
With enhanced waterproofing, moisture protection, and functional bathroom layout, the room is now safer and easier to use. The subtle neutral palette creates a calm atmosphere, while the updated custom vanity provides organization without compromising style.
This renovation not only improved daily comfort but also increased the condo’s property value—an affordable luxury with long-term benefits.
The client was delighted with the transformation and expressed how relieved she felt finally having a bathroom she could use safely and confidently. She praised the brighter space, the easy-entry shower, and the overall craftsmanship. Her satisfaction was the best reward—and she has already reached out to begin her second bathroom renovation with us.
